How This Backtest Works

The Hanging Man backtest on YouPattern is conducted using real historical OHLCV data from Binance, covering the period from 2018 to 2026. The algorithm finds candles with a long lower wick (2x body) and small upper wick, but specifically requires them to appear after a 5-candle uptrend. This distinguishes the Hanging Man from a Hammer. Once detected, we simulate a trade with a fixed 2.2:1 Reward-to-Risk ratio. The stop-loss is placed just beyond the pattern's extreme, and the trade is tracked for up to 8 subsequent candles to determine success or failure across 1000 occurrences.
